Dealing with a subject as fraught with potential for disaster in a XXX film as personal emotional pain keeps most average directors far away from even the attempt. Michael, though, has always devoted himself to bringing raw feelings to the screen, whether those be of a purely sexual nature or not.
Historic Ninn fans know how much of an inspiration Michael takes from the music in his work and in this first collaboration with guitar legend Eddie Van Halen he reaches plateaus in cinema rare even for him. Parallel stories of a woman damned for cursing God after the loss of her young son and the Detective seeking her while also dealing with the murder of his own family provide Michael with a rich texture through which to follow the labyrinth of human reason.
